Contra Costa Times, November 30, 2006 Celebrating local talent, timely topics at year's end WHERE DID the year go? This is the year's final Local Literati, the space in which we recognize new books by Bay Area authors. It's been a great year — lots of wonderful writing and interesting topics. We end the year on a similar note with creative authors offering something for everyone. "Aging Artfully — 12 Profiles: Visual & Performing Women Artists Aged 85-105" (PAL Publishing, $20) by Berkeley's Amy Gorman. What could be more inspiring than artists whose craft sustains them as they age? Gorman talks with a variety of artists, including a rug braider, a doll maker, a pianist and a couple of storytellers. Just as interesting as the artists' work is the fact that they've met life head on. A CD titled "7 Songs of Women's Lives" by Frances Kandl of Berkeley is included.
